Friendship 101: Cracking the Code of Social Interactions
This workshop is designed for adults on the autism spectrum who:
- Are interested in making and keeping friends
- Want to increase their confidence and ease in navigating various social situations
- Want to make meaningful connections with others
Topics covered include:
- Identifying potential friends
- Verbal and non-verbal communication
- Hidden codes of behavior
- Starting, maintaining, and ending a conversation
- Joining different social situations (joining a group activity, asking someone to hang out, etc.)
At the end of the workshop, participants will learn strategies for connecting with others meaningfully and practical knowledge for handling social situations in different settings.
Learning Objectives & Outcomes
• Gain awareness and motivation to make meaningful friendships
• Gain skills for making informal conversation with others
• Gain skills for handling different social situations
• Increase ease and confidence of using these skills by practising with peers
