Designing for All: SG Enable puts inclusion in the spotlight in Osaka, Kansai, Japan

SINGAPORE, 15 MAY 2025 – On Global Accessibility Awareness Day, SG Enable puts the spotlight on inclusion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. As the focal agency for disability and inclusion, SG Enable will host a thought-provoking panel discussion at the Singapore Pavilion (2PM Japan Time), bringing together voices from design, architecture, hospitality, accessibility and assistive technology to share insights on what inclusion looks like and reimagine how we shape our spaces and experiences for everyone.

The panel includes:
  • Ms. Beh Siew Kim, Chief Financial & Sustainability Officer, Lodging, CapitaLand Investment and Managing Director, Japan and Korea, The Ascott Limited
  • Dr. Henry Tsang – Chair Elect & Associate Professor, Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Centre for Architecture, Athabasca University, and Visiting Research Fellow, The University of Tokyo
  • Mr. Joshua Tseng, Co-founder and Creative Director, Blind Mice Media and a disability advocate
  • Mr. Tze Lee, Co-founder and Director, STUCK Design

Inclusion on display
Visitors to the Pavilion will be treated to a vibrant showcase of 15 artworks by talented
Singaporean artists with disabilities—part of the i’mable Public Education movement and its ongoing partnership with the National Day Parade (NDP). Some of these artworks were featured on merchandise and collaterals after NDP as they embody creativity, resilience, pride, and a love for Singapore.

SG Enable, in collaboration with Singapore Tourism Board (STB), ensured that the stunning Singapore Pavilion was thoughtfully made accessible from wheelchair-friendly routes and  sensory-friendly exhibit information to enhanced rest areas. STB staff also completed disability  awareness training with SG Enable’s Enabling Academy to enhance the visitors’ experience at the Pavilion.

With Japan and Singapore both navigating the realities of ageing populations, accessibility is no longer optional, it is necessary.

SG Enable’s Chief Executive Officer, Lee May Gee said: “Inclusion isn’t just a design feature—it’s the foundation of a thriving society. The Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2025 offers a vital platform to advance our vision of inclusive spaces alongside our partners. We are grateful to the Singapore Tourism Board for the opportunity to showcase inclusion on the global stage, our social service partners for journeying with us, and our distinguished speakers from academia, as well as the public and private sectors, for lending their voices to this important global conversation on building a more inclusive and accessible world.”
