An Integrated Community Space for Persons with Disabilities

SG Enable unveiled its plans today for an integrated community space for persons with disabilities. This is part of the nation’s efforts towards building an inclusive society.

When it is operational in the second half of 2015, the site (located at 141 Redhill Road) will serve as a focal point of services for persons with disabilities and their caregivers. It will make it easier for them to find the right information and resources, and access suitable services in a more co-ordinated and integrated way.

Spanning about 30,000 square metres, the site will be retrofitted to encourage greater integration and inclusion of persons with disabilities and the larger community. It is designed around three core principles:

• Integrated Service: A one-stop gateway for information and referral services for persons with disabilities and their caregivers, as well as employment services for persons with disabilities and employers.

• Inclusive Infrastructure: A showcase of how universal design, infocomm technology and assistive technology can enable persons with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives.

• 3P Partnership: A space where different partners from the People, Private and Public sectors come together and leverage one another’s resources and expertise to build an inclusive environment.

“We will develop this site into a shared space where bonds will be forged, and the people, private and public sectors come together to encourage greater integration and inclusion of persons with disabilities within the community. Through the services and infrastructure on this site, we hope to enable persons with disabilities to fulfil their aspirations and pursue independent and dignified lives.” said Ms Ku Geok Boon, Chief Executive Officer, SG Enable.

A naming contest for the site has also been launched. The public is encouraged to submit a name that embodies the objectives of the site and the significance of the strong people-private-public sector partnership. The contest will end on 1 August 2014.
